I've got a Whirlpool Cabrio Top Load Washer with EcoBoost Model: WTW5640XW1 that I purchased back in Sept of 2011. The unit is used for 2-3 loads of laundry a week so it's not abused and they're typically not BIG loads either, although every once in awhile the loads are pretty large.
Below is a summary of the issues I've had with it:
Aug of 2013 - Washer wouldn't always go into spin cycle, replaced the shift actuator, since replacing it I've had no issues with it not shifting correctly
Mid 2014 - Nut on the drive pulley came off causing the drive pulley to drop down and damage the pulley cover as well; I reinstalled the drive pulley & nut as tight as I could
Early 2015 - Nut on the drive pulley loosened but I figured it out before it completely came off; I re-tightened the nut as tight as I could
May 2015 - Nut on the drive pulley loosened but I figured it out before it completely came off; I removed the drive pulley and looked at the plastic "spines" on the drive pulley piece itself and they looked a little bit rounded so I bought a new drive pulley and installed it and then used the red loctite thread locker on the nut this time so that the nut wouldn't come loose. I also replaced the damaged pulley cover figuring the issues wouldn't return
November 2015 - The unit started making a bad grinding noise during the spin cycle and the clothes we're not getting spun out. The drive pulley had enough play in it to damage the new pulley cover I had installed even though the nut had not loosened. After working some magic to get the nut off since I used the red loctite thread locker I discovered that the plastic splines in the new plastic pulley drive that I installed in May were completely ground down to nothing
I still have the original drive pulley that looked a bit rounded and can re-install it but I am wondering what keeps causing these issues and how I can fix the problem. All ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance for whatever insight you all can give me.
This is a picture of the drive pulley that keeps giving me issues - shown with the pulley cover removed.
