Incomplete extraction of water during spin-dry cycle of the washing machine

Hi,
I have a Kenmore 700 series (model: 28722700) washer. The washer has some spin-dry/water extraction problem.

Washing with no second rinse on:
The machine appears to run normally (I hear the agitation) - but when it reaches the spin stage of the cycle, it spins rapidly, but the water is not completely extracted - the clothes are very wet. However, if I dial the knob back to the spin setting and start again, then the remaining water is extracted fine.

Washing with the second rinse on: After completing the spin from the first cycle, the tub gets filled with water, it agitates through the entire second rinse cycle and then it stops. The machine does not even attempt to spin out the water. At this stage, I have to turn the dial back to the spin setting to extract the water.

I did some reading on this blog. Based on that, I made the following observations:

1) I timed the spin dry process - bulk of the water is out within 90 seconds.
2)
The drain pumps appears unclogged - did not see anything inside.
3)
The lid sensor looks fine (checked with a multi-meter).
4) The plastic motor coupling appears OK.

I am not sure what to look for next. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
