Kenmore Series 90 washer motor question and general help

(If this is duplicate I apologize -- can't find my prev post)

My basic question is: how easily should a washer drive motor turn when completely detached from washer? Mine turns very stiffly, using crescent wrench.

General problem: Kenmore washer series 90 hums gently when it comes to the wash cycle and does nothing. It seems to fill with water OK. I think the spin cycle has no hum but also will not spin.

I think the hum comes from something in the control panel, possibly the "timer".

I originally thought the hum was coming from the drive motor and that it might be stalled, based on some online service blogs. So I disassembled the washer, removing the pump, motor, and transmission to check them.

The pump seems clear, no jammed items, it will spin. The transmission spins OK by itself. When in the washer, I can turn the transmission and the tub seems to turn OK (slowly compared to transmission rotation).

The motor windings seem OK using an Ohm meter and checking against the specs of the wiring diagram I found in the console. The capacitor checked OK with an ohm meter.

The motor shaft can be turned with a wrench, but it is very stiff. So I'm wondering if that is normal or not.

I tried to test the motor electrically connected but mechanically disconnected by using by setting the console to the wash cycle, but I did not know how to correctly jumper the lid-switch connector. I jumpered all three pins together and I think that blew a circuit breaker. The wiring diagram and some continuity tests on the lid switch suggested that closing the lid connects all three pins, but I'm not really sure. I was not able to get the motor to activate in any case.

If it is a bad timer, is there a way to jumper switches to simulate the wash cycles to prove everything except the timer is working OK?

Any help would be appreciated.

LG WM2101HW error code and water leak

I have a LG front load washer model WM2101HW that shows error code FE (the "f" is upside down) and has a water leak. The leak only happen when the error code is displayed. From what i can tell it happens 1/2 thru the wash cycle and is intermittent. The manual says to unplug the washer and call for service. I'll unplug the washer for a few minutes and plug back in and everything seems ok for the next few loads.

Any ideas whats going on? Thanks in advance.

Cabrio DL code then Lid code

My Whirlpool Cabrio had A DL code. I replaced the lid lock and successfully ran two loads.

When turning on the machine for the third load I now have a "Lid" code.

Any suggestions?

LG Washer - Which part to buy -- drain pump or control board?

LG top loader.

Washing machine stopped draining today. I confirmed no obstructions in the lines or the drain pump. Drain pump passes continuity test and rotates freely.

First time that I tested voltage on the lines leading to the drain pump, it read 120V. Hooked up the drain pump and it worked *intermittently*. Disconnected plugs to drain pump, and now the voltage on the line is only reading 90V. Not sure what to make of that.

Samsung Washer Not Filling With Water

Hi, I have a 4 year old washer that is acting funny. The problems first started when we noticed that the clothes were really damp after washing. We tried to start another wash cycle to see what happened, but this time the washer would not fill with water. We hear a couple of clicks (which I thought locked the door but the door was unlocked) and there is just a constant sound of a motor running. The water supply hoses seem fine.

Appliance Cost Guide

Our appliances connect us, entertain us and make our lives easier. We depend on our refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, hot water heaters, air conditioners, microwaves and the rest to help us maintain our lifestyles. Whether we need to install new appliances or repair existing gadgets, the money spent generally falls into the category of "sound investment." How much you'll pay depends on a number of factors: Brand and Quality of Appliances In the past five years, we've all become much more sophisticated in our appliance-shopping strategies. We compare prices with a few mouse clicks. We also can go beyond low price tags and look at quality. What do reviews say about that brand of toaster oven? What kind of problems have arisen for owners of that refrigerator model? A few minutes of research can quickly make it clear that paying for quality brands can save you big bucks in the life of an appliance. That research can also suggest what brands charge way more than the value of their products. If you're buying appliances as part of a major renovation, your contractor can be another source of information, guiding you to the best values. http://www.homeadvisor.com/cost/appliances/
