Burning Smell, mostly on Spin

Continuing from this thread - same washer, new problem
http://ift.tt/2qtDaa9

Big burning smell greeted me at the end of the spin cycle. Ran it through a short cycle. It filled and agitated ok, perhaps with a little bit of smell. Drained OK. Might have smelled a bit more at this point. Burning smell really kicked in during spin cycle again.

Disassembled the thing like last time. Sniffed the motor, transmission, clutch, coupling... all seem fine. The one part that seems to have a burning smell is the drain pump, particularly at the shaft where it connects to the motor. Leaning towards replacing this. I think there's not really any other moving parts to examine.

Any advice welcome, thanks in advance
Rob

AWN432SP111TW Speed Queen Water Hammer

Hey all,

The water hammer was noticed almost immediately after washing machine was installed (Jan '15) and
we weren't really concerned about it. Fast forward 6 months and we had to repair
a leak in the supply line (buried, of course). We're now concerned if this hammer
can affect any fixtures that are connected.

I've installed hammer arrestors on both lines and that seemed to work, temporarily.
Speed Queens advice was to contact a plumber.

My question, what exactly is causing this? Is it the mixing valve itself or the logic that's controlling it? Or both? The reason I ask is that if it's the valve I'm thinking I could adapt another brand
say Maytag or LG.

Thanks

Samsung Model: WF42H5100AW/A2 - 4E error

Hi, I have a Samsung front load washer that is about 2 years old and it just began giving me a 4E error which according to samsung is that the washer is not filling within a given time.

I have tried/tested the following:

  • cleaned and verified that there are no obstructions in the front filter
  • verified that the mesh screens for both the hot and cold inlets are clean and clear
  • verified I have water coming in and through the inlets. I took the top off and actually disconnected the fill hoses on one end and watched the hoses kick on and put water through. I also verified that the water was coming through the soap mixer.

With the top of the washer off I noticed that there was a hose with a hole in it (see picture) and this hose goes to a pressure switch which I believe is what controls when to shut off the water flow (i.e. drum fills and hose fills until the correct pressure is hit and then cuts the water flow).

Aha! I thought, this must be the problem so I went out and bought a similar length of hose that is ever so slightly a larger diameter but I got gear clamps and clamped it down on both ends so that I cannot pull the hose off without using extreme force.
I know this because I broke the pressure sensor tube attachment and had to buy a whole brand new sensor!

Now, my problem is the issue still is occurring.
  • What can I check next?
  • Does the hose have to be the exact same length? (it's about 5-6 inches longer than the original)
  • Does it need to be a specific type of hose? I believe I got just generic black tubing that you'd use on a car or for fuel.
  • Could the larger diameter be leaking air even with gear clamps pretty tight?

Any and all help is appreciated because it's out of warranty and no appliance repair shops I've called in my city can get to me before next week :(

What has the gov't done to our appliances?

Are there any washing machines produced today that are not a mess due to HE requirements? If so...which are they? I ordered the last GE available that has warm water rinse..and was dumbfounded watching it (work?). Then I read the reviews more carefully about how it is designed not to really work. (can still return it for now!!)
Need expert ADVICE. PLEASE HELP..If you experts were buying a new set today (5-20-'17)...which would you buy? Sooooo confusing and upsetting. I can tell you how to find and negotiate a killer deal on a house...how to renovate it and sell it for a $20K profit..or more...but I can't figure out how to spend money for a worthwhile washer (and dryer). Will appreciate hearing your opinions/advice. Thanks for taking time to respond. AnnetteNCharlotte :)

Washer filled, then stopped, not working

Pretty old machine, but clean and never had a problem before. It filled normally, then nothing.
I shut it off, dialed to start again, and all it does is buzz for about 8 seconds. The dial continues to move through cycles, but the machine is not doing anything. I've unplugged it until I could find some help. Today I watched your video of opening and closing lid 6 times.. nothing happened.
Any ideas?

WT1201C LG Top Load Washer won't drain - Need control board sanity check

LG top loader won't drain. Spins fine.
No obstructions in pump or drain hoses (floods my floor just fine when I remove the hoses).
Bench tested pump and it runs perfectly.
Using spin-only mode or the service menu to turn on the drain pump (T6), no voltage present on pump power leads.
Same for the drain pump power output pins on the back of the control board.

Based on this, I think it is the main control board that needs to be replaced.

Is there anything else I should check before ordering this expensive and non-returnable part?

Sidenote: Consumer Reports can go suck a toad for rating this washer a best buy.

Samsung washer 3E motor error when spining

Hi all,

I have had this washing machine for about 4 years now with no problems. Then last night at the spin cycle point of the wash it started beeping and showed a "motor error 3E call for service" on its LCD display. I had another go this morning, and the same thing happened again (different load of clothes and smaller amount). I've been trying to do some testing and have discovered that when the washer is empty it completes the 1400 rpm spin cycle with no error, with clothes in the washer it will complete the spin cycle at 400rpm and 800rpm with no error as well. I haven't tested the 1000rpm or 1200rpm options.

I've since opened the machine up to check the wiring and nothing seems to be loose and everything is clean with no signs of corrosion.

Does any one have an idea of what spercific part may be the problem?

Thanks,

LG WM2688HWM Control Knob Broken

Hi,

I have an LG WM2688HWM front loading washer. Today the main control knob broke. The good news is that even though the part (6871er2020b) has been discontinued, LG has a few left. So I ordered one. The only problem is that it will take 10-15 days to get here.

So my question is this: I still can access the "Tub Clean" and "Rinse and Spin" cycles through other buttons. Is there any way that I can get the washer to wash my clothes using a combination of these cycles? I just need it to work for a coupe of weeks -- maybe 12 loads or so.

Thank you in advance.

Washer Has F-01 Error Code

I have the dreaded F-01 code on my Whirlpool Duet Sport washer. It will start up in normal wash and fill with water then wash, but when it stops to pump the water out it just goes blank.I thought it was the pump so I replaced it. Didn't fix. I replaced the CCU main control board. Still showing F-01 code. Ran the diagnostic test, went through all the C test then everything goes blank and the door is locked with water still in drum. I have to reach up under the front to pull on the ring to unlock it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Tom

WM2450HRA LG Front Load washer tub slowly fills with water when not in use

My front loader is slowly filling with water when not in use. I have run a spin cycle to drain and then turned off the cold water supply and a day later there was the water. I tried the same and turned off the hot water - same result. Then I drained it and turned off hot and cold at the same time, and still it has water in it the next day. I guess it must be coming from the internal hoses on the other side of the valve. Any ideas?

Kenmore Mdl 26112 won't spin and lid locked light flashing, no display.

I have a series 600 Kenmore model 26112 HE washer. I noticed not too long ago, the clothes at the end of the cycle were soaking wet. I could manually turn the knob to Drain/Spin and they would spin dry. Yesterday, I noticed it fills and drains, I don't think it agitates and it will not spin. I unplugged it overnight and it ran a load but again, didn't spin dry it. I could manually set it to spin dry. Now, it fills and drains and stops. Clothes are wet and lid locked light blinks. There is no digital readout on the front panel to show error codes. But it looks like the model with the readout otherwise. I replaced the lid switch today but no change. This washer is less than 3 years old. The board is around $250 and I can buy a new washer for $300-$400. Has anyone had this problem? As far as I know, there is no diagnostic program to show me what's wrong. This morning I set it to spin manually so I know it will spin and turn the tub so I wouldn't think the motor was bad. I'm stumped and retired and on anfixed ncome and can't afford Sears technicians rates to fix it every 2 years if it keeps happening. Thanks in advance

Maytag Stacked Washer/Dryer

Dryer works fine -after the drum belt was replaced. Washer does not work. No action at all on most Timer settings when the is knob pulled. The tub will spin at many random timer settings, stops when lid is opened. At several random Timer settings there will be a loud sound, when the knob is pulled, as if the clutch is engaged, and a hum starts as if the motor is getting power but the rotor is prevented from turning. The hum stops when lid is opened. The exact same "symptoms" are still there even after I replaced the Lid Switch and the washer Timer. The fuse in line with the Lid Switch never had to be replaced. Repair suggestions will be appreciated. (Serial Number of the Maytag Washer/Dryer is A3213802MF)
