Maytag Neptune Washer started making a grinding noise anytime the drum was turned. Found online someone said they had removed the agitators and gathered a handful of coins that had been stuck in the gears, so I was hopeful...but sadly that is not my problem. I took off one agitator, and turned it so the "hole" was at the bottom of the drum, and there is a stiff metal wire rubbing against the inside of the drum. When I push it down and turn the drum a little the grinding is gone. I haven't been able to find anywhere what this is or how to repair it. (See picture)
Is it possible to repair this?
What is the part?
Anyone have videos or a manual for this machine? I don't know how to domore than take the door off
Second part: The spin cycle is getting louder. I understand from reading the forums that this likely means the grinding might not be worth repairing? Even so--if there is even a quick fix for the grinding to last my machine a few more days or weeks, that would be very helpful because I have a load of dirty cloth diapers to wash--pronto! And how much longer is a machine likely to last once the spin starts getting louder?
I don't know how old the machine is. We moved in almost 2 years ago. The washer and dryer are a pair, but I can't find a model number on the dryer, and the model sticker on the washer has the date worn off. I don't even know when this model was originally sold. Based on the age of other appliances in the house, I'm guessing 10-15 years old? If we have to replace the washer, is the dryer on borrowed time and something we should replace at the same time?
