LG WT1001CW Washer has bad smell, but not mildew smell, and sand/dirt in tub

We have a "new to us" LG WT1001CW that has some sand/dirt in the tub, and a pretty bad smell. We have run the Tub Clean twice, and the mildew odor is gone, but the other smell remains. I believe it is an odor from wet items that were used in Austin's waterways, where the water has come into contact with lots of Limestone. It is almost like a fishy type of smell, like seashells. Also, the first time we used it, there was sand and grit left on the clothes.

What is the best way to make sure there is not a lot of sand left in the inside of the tub? I don't see a pump filter on this unit, and no access if there is one. I am thinking that I remove the agitator plates cap, and remove the bolt and lift up the agitator plate, but I am not sure if there is any space under that that would have collected dirt/sand.

Looking for suggestions on where to find the smell causing debris because we cannot walk around in clothes if they smell like seashells.
