Frigidaire stackable help

I have a Frigidaire stacked washer/dryer the model number is FEX831FS2. The washer will fill but when it comes time to agitate the motor will just make noise akd eventually start lightly smoking. Local appliance guy came out and installed a used motor he had and same problem. He told me I needed a new transmission. However I was looking at it tonight. The transmission and basket spins very freely by hand pulling the pulley with belt disconnected.
